Message	I record the date, odo reading, gallons I put in, and price at EVERY fill up. Now, this only works well if you consistently fill it up ALL the way at every gas-up. I also record any usual maintenance I do, including oil changes, and other more infrequent maintenance (plugs, 30k, etc.). This makes it easier to look back and cross-reference mods/maintenance/mileage, and makes it a snap to look back on any questions that come up on mileage if need be.
